Leah Raintree: Timekeepers

Reynolds Gallery, Richmond, VA
March 18 - April 22, 2022

Leah Raintree: Timekeepers is an exhibition that features two bodies of work, including ink drawings and ceramics, that reveal an intimacy with time and place. The title series for the exhibition underscores the significance of drawing across Raintree’s practice. Intricate and maplike, the Timekeeper drawings are produced on crushed paper, with linework responding to the sculptural terrain, creating a concentrated record of time, process, and attention. Also included are works from Raintree’s series Clearing, ceramic tablets that incorporate found materials from the small farm in Virginia where Raintree grew up. These works include layers of underdrawing and glaze using ash and clay soil from the landscape of Raintree’s youth, and reflect upon her experience of living and working alongside seasonal patterns and timeframes.
